Local Notes: Map Your Memories

Local Notes ("the app") is developed by Nick Saulino. This policy describes what data the app collects, how it is used, and your choices regarding that data.
If you sign in with Google, Apple, or email, we store your name, email address, and a unique user ID to manage your account. Apple's "Hide My Email" relay addresses are supported. You may also use the app in guest mode without creating an account.
Notes you create - including place names, text, ratings, dates, and photos - are stored locally on your device using SQLite. If you are signed in, your notes are also synced to Google Firebase Firestore so they are available across devices. Photos are stored in Firebase Storage.
The app requests location permission to:
Location data is processed on-device. We do not store your location history on our servers. You can deny location permission and still use the app - distance-based features will be unavailable.
We use Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics to understand how the app is used and to diagnose crashes. This includes anonymous usage events (e.g., feature usage counts), device model, OS version, and crash stack traces. No personally identifiable information is included in crash reports.
The free tier of the app displays ads served by Google AdMob. AdMob may collect device identifiers and usage data to serve personalized or contextual ads. You can opt out of personalized ads in your device's privacy settings. Upgrading to a paid tier removes all ads.
The app uses the following third-party services, each with their own privacy policies:
Your data is stored in Google Firebase servers located in the United States. Data is transmitted using HTTPS encryption. Firestore security rules ensure that only you can read and write your own notes.
Your notes and account data are retained as long as your account exists. You can delete individual notes at any time from within the app. To delete your account and all associated data, contact us at the email below.
The app is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date.
